Ski resorts for beginners
Skiing should be fun, and all our ski resorts are suitable for beginners with skiing areas where easy slopes, slower lifts, BBQ areas and sledging slopes all can be found in one location.
New to skiing?
Many people are skiing for the first time when they visit us. It's important that beginners have a good experience on the slopes and feel safe when skiing. There are many opportunities to improve your skiing skills, and our destinations have areas that are particularly well suited to new skiers.
Beginners become more confident with training
Our ski school is popular and many people take advantage of this experience before hitting the big slopes. Some may be afraid to ask for help, or feel it's aimed at children, but we have ski school for adult beginners to build confidence.
If you're a beginner or unsure about skiing, we highly recommend a session with the instructor. The person wants to help and has seen just about everything you can imagine. Nothing is embarrassing, but it creates a lot of confidence and will give you the tools to really make the most of your time on the slopes.
It's the experienced SkiStar Guides who run the lessons and help you feel safe on the slopes. After many years of experience, many with extensive training, they are ready to help you, your family, children and friends find the joy of skiing. They are an important part of how to find a memorable mountain experience.
Valle helps the kids
Of course, Valle also helps - with Valle's skiing rules, you'll be well prepared when you hit the slopes.
Ski resorts for beginners
All our resorts are suitable for beginners, and there are often specific areas that are more suitable than others.
Beginner skiing in Trysil
If we were to divide up the ski areas in Trysil, three out of four could be suitable for beginners. The most important thing for beginners is to steer clear of Høgegga, which is the steepest area. Otherwise, there are green and wide slopes around the bottom of the other areas, as well as children's slopes at the children's areas.
Areas for beginners in Hemsedal
There are three peaks you can reach with the ski lift in Hemsedal, but if you're going up to a peak, it's important to know that it's a long way down. As a beginner, there may be some areas that are a quite steep. If the children's slope at the bottom of the resort feels comfortable, Lodge Express and down Fjellsvingen (19) into Turistløypa (11) down to the bottom can be a good next step.
New to skiing in Sälen?
Many beginners achieve mastery and have great experiences in Lindvallen in Sälen. There are many green slopes here that are suitable for both beginners and families with children. Högfjället is the smallest ski area and has mainly green and blue slopes, which are also suitable for beginner skiers.
Tandådalen may be a little too challenging for beginners, while Hundfjället should be fine with chairlifts and several large green slopes, as well as a children's area with exciting activities.
Åre for beginners
There are a total of three ski areas in Åre, namely Åre By, Åre Björnen and Duved/Tegefjäll. Åre By is divided into the high and the low zone, where the low zone is below the tree line. This zone should be avoided as a beginner as these are the steepest slopes used in the Alpine World Cup.
A popular and beginner-friendly ski resort in Åre Town is Rödkullen. Here you'll find green and blue slopes that offer a slightly more pleasant experience than the black and scary slopes. For slightly more challenging, yet wide blue and red slopes and fewer people, Duved/Tegefjäll is a great place to further develop your skiing skills.
Vemdalen offers ski resorts for beginners
One of the many things that makes Vemdalen unique for new skiers is that virtually every summit has a slope suitable for beginners. There's either a green or blue slope down, with the exception of Gråhogna which starts off with red slope. Here, beginners can really get to grips with the entire ski resort and find some incredibly good slopes.
Of course, it's worth mentioning that there's an express lift here, so the trip up is quicker and you can rest your legs before setting off at your own pace.
Skis and equipment for beginners
It's easy to rent skis and other equipment at all our destinations, so you can get something that suits your skiing level. Our SkiStarshops also stock goggles, mittens and all the other clothing and equipment you need on the slopes.
