Energy for the future

Our goal is to be completely self-sufficient in energy by 2030. For this to become a reality, we need to take a closer look at what type of electricity we use and also how we use it. We have several exciting projects underway in this area.

Start 100% self-produced energy
25%

Already today, we only buy electricity from renewable energy sources and our ski resorts are powered by electricity from solar, wind and hydropower. 100% of the electricity we buy is therefore renewable.

We also analyse the energy consumption of our properties, lifts and snow production to learn how we can work smarter and have as low an energy consumption as possible. During the 2022/23 season, we reduced electricity consumption by 10% compared with the previous year.

You'll find smart tips on how to join us in our efforts and save electricity here.

We produce electricity using solar cells

We took the first step to producing our own electricity when we put solar cells on the roof of SkiStarshop Concept Store Lindvallen in 2022.

We have now taken the next step with solar cells in several of our properties in Sälen: on the roof of the piste machine garage, above the McDonald's and at Wasastugan.

Most recently, we also installed solar cells on top of Experium in Sälen. Hear more about it in the video below.

We are investing in wind power

Since 2021, we have been working closely with Jämtkraft. Our partnership involves the following:

  • We buy electricity from Jämtkraft, which owns, among other things, the three wind turbines at Middagsberget in Vemdalen (see image). From here, we buy in approximately 25% of our annual electricity consumption, which is equivalent to the electricity required to operate our ski areas in Vemdalen (Björnrike, Klövsjö/Storhogna and Vemdalsskalet) for a whole winter season.
  • Together with Jämtkraft, we are exploring the conditions for building a solar cell park adjacent to the Scandinavian Mountains Airport.

We are also a co-owner of Dala Vindkraft Ekonomiska Förening and Dala Vind AB as another step towards our investment in renewable energy and climate-neutral electricity production.

We ensure snow production with a WATER POND

During the winter of 2022/23, we invested heavily in improving snow production by building a new water reservoir in Sälen and acquiring more efficient snow sensors with GPS.

The water reservoir is located at Väggen valley in Hundfjället and gives our snow cannons more water access. This also reduces the impact on other streams that supply us with water.
