Keep the mountain clean

SkiStar is cleaning up the mountains together with Håll Sverige Rent and Hold Norge Rent – a new initiative in our ambitious sustainability strategy.

A sustainable mountain experience is central to our business. We look forward to the future with ambitious climate goals: SkiStar will reduce its emissions and become climate neutral in 2030. To achieve this, we need to invest in all parts of our business.

Håll Fjället Rent is an investment that highlights, informs and counteracts the amount of destructive waste that our mountain resorts and nature are sadly exposed to. Rubbish is a big problem and needs to be eliminated because it not only harms the nature in our mountain resorts, but also the animals that live there.

SkiStar will therefore organise a cleaning month in the spring each year, usually in May. We believe that this initiative will help bring about behavioural change and shed light on a serious problem that is harming the beautiful mountain environment we love and live in.

31 May 2024 is our next big cleaning day.

Working together – for a cleaner mountain environment

SkiStar will help keep our mountains clean in collaboration with local residents, including local schools, visitors and businesses and together with the organisations Håll Sverige Rent and Hold Norge Rent. The entire month of May is therefore dedicated to rubbish collection and to highlighting the problem so that we can create a pleasant and cleaner mountain environment in the long-term for all of us.

Rubbish is collected continuously throughout the month, but we will also arrange specific events and cleaning days to get as many people involved as possible.

For many years now, there has already been a strong local commitment to solving the rubbish problem in our destinations. Sports clubs, preschools and companies have all done their bit in the past, and continue to do so whenever we fare in the mountains. We now have specific dates for our mountain clean:

Throughout May we will be cleaning together at several of SkiStar's destinations, and during the summer and autumn season those who visit our selected destinations in Sweden and Norway will have the opportunity to help keep our mountains clean. We will provide rubbish bags for those who want to take a run, hike or bike ride in the mountains and combine it with rubbish collection. After the ride, record all the rubbish you have picked up in the rubbish log app, which is available in the App Store or on Google Play.

Follow-up & future

This is a long-term initiative, which aims to promote sustainability and strengthen our links with the surrounding nature. We will carry out continuous measurements of the rubbish collected. This is also done together with local residents, such as cabin owners, associations and visitors to our destinations. Our work for a cleaner mountain environment will also extend far beyond the month of May. We will have specific rubbish stations for the rubbish that is picked up and we will also put up bag holders around our destinations to facilitate rubbish collection during the summer and autumn.

By conducting actual measurements, we will have definitive numbers on just how much cleaner our nature is. Our mountain experiences should be more than memorable – they should also be sustainable and rubbish-free.

We take care of our mountains

One of our priority goals is to take into account and promote biodiversity in all our development projects. We are already protecting the natural mountain environment in a number of different ways.
