10 tips when staying in a cabin
At SkiStar, we want to preserve our white winters and our fantastic mountain environment, and that's why we aim to halve our climate footprint by 2030. To do this, we need your help.
If we all make sustainable choices and reduce electricity consumption together, demand will be reduced and prices will decrease. Together with our electricity suppliers Jämtkraft and Dalakraft, we have listed 10 tips on how cabin guests can contribute to smarter electricity consumption:
- Spending time in the sauna. Avoid putting it on before you go out just to have it warm for when you come home.
Some cabins have a timer in the sauna, which means that it can only be used between the hours of 17.00-21.00. This is to save electricity. - Reduce the heat of the elements. Lowering the temperature by one degree reduces the cost by about 5%.
- Use underfloor heating sparingly. Wear warm socks or slippers if your feet are cold.
- Remember to turn off the towel dryer. Or even better: use a drying rack! If the dryer runs continuously, it can use 600 kWh per year.
- Remove plug sockets that are not in use, and avoid stand-by mode. Approx. 30% of home electricity consumption may be electricity that is used even when not needed.
- Dry your washing on a line or drying rack. Tumble drying is also preferred over a drying cupboard, which uses lot of energy.
- Use a kettle instead of a pot. And use the lid when cooking on a stove.
- Dishes in the dishwasher rather than by hand. If washing by hand, avoid doing so under running water.
- Try to shorten your time in the shower. By showering for 5 minutes instead of 15, you can save 500 kWh per year per person.
- Avoid leaving windows ajar. If you need to air, do it in short bursts to prevent wasting too much heat.
