Tips for a great summer in the Scandinavian mountains

Here's a greeting from the mountains, offering everything from hiking to biking, climbing and rafting this summer - and of course a lot of fun. See our tips for a great summer!

Hike yourself tired - sleep well in cosy beds

The peak you see in the picture above is the popular Skagsvola in Trysil. It's an easy hiking trail that takes about three hours. Suitable for those who are new to hiking but can do day hikes. Both hiking and running in mountain environments are becoming increasingly popular. More hiking tips can be found here >>

Many people book comfortable accommodation while doing day hikes. Book into the luxurious SkiStar Lodge and you are guaranteed to sleep well! If you want to try something new and unique, why not try staying in an IGLOO? In Sälen you can experience cosy beds with nature just around the corner.

Other things to do in our Scandinavian mountains in summer include cycling, high ropes course climbing or why not try white water rafting?

Biking for all - already in May

In Sälen, cycling trails and climbing parks often open at the beginning of June, but there are usually opportunities to experience the mountains in the summer as early as May, when the Gullia cycling centre in Trysil opens its doors for the season. Gullia is a must-visit for anyone who wants to have fun on two wheels!

Exact dates for opening will be announced later.

3 tips for those who are new to the mountains

  • Pack smart
You don't need a lot of stuff. Focus on cosy clothes, comfortable shoes and a backpack. In the mountains you don't need to look good, it's nature that's beautiful. If you're unsure about the weather - layer up.
  • Start simple
Never hiked before? Start by taking the lift up the mountain and looking at the view. Never cycled? Rent a bike and just pedal around in the beautiful surroundings. The whole point is just to get out into nature, it's an experience in itself.
  • Don't forget the coffee
The most important thing when you're out and about: your packed lunch. If you've skied before or tried to teach your children to ski, you know that a chocolate bar in your pocket is worth its weight in gold when you're running low on energy. The same goes for summer. Luckily, you're never far from a waffle house!
  • Bonus tip for safety
If you're not used to hiking or in areas that are new to you - never go alone in the mountains. Tell someone where you are going and have a charged mobile phone with you. Also bear in mind that the weather can change quickly. More tips from the Mountain Safety Council >>
